Speakers
June was a busy month for the Women's Resource Center. The quarterly meeting
of the Montana Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence was held in Glasgow
at the Cottonwood Inn on June 20th and 21st. Montana Legal
Services did workshops on Wednesday the 20th to coalition members
and victim witness programs.
Chuck Derry was the featured speaker on Thursday June 21st. He presented
information on Manhood, Sexism and Violence, the Dynamics for Domestic Violence,
and Coordinated Community Response. He is a trainer/consultant to the National
training Project in Duluth, Minnesota. He provides lectures and workshops throughout
the United States on male socialization and violence against women, and also
provides law enforcement training. Many individuals from across the state and
local community members took part his presentation.
Michael
Napier Presenting in August
Michael Napier will be in Glasgow on August 27th and 28th
at the Cottonwood Inn. Mr. Napier is a former FBI Supervisory Special Agent
at the FBI's NCAVC. He specializes in applying behavioral analysis to violent
crimes to assess the potential for preventing violence or deterring specific
criminals in individual settings.
He will be presenting information on Motivation of the Child Molester, Interviewing
Techniques of Violent Suspects, Victims and Witnesses, and Delivering Expert
Testimony.
The cost is $225.00 per person. For each full tuition paid by your agency, you may send one additional person at no charge. To register, contact the Women's Resource Center at 228-8401.
Valley
County Combined Campaign
The Women's Resource Center would like to thank everyone for generously contributing
and volunteering to help at the Champion of Champions day. It was greatly appreciated
and proceeds will go toward helping victims of violence in the community.
The winners of the poster contest for the Champion of Champions day were: Aaron Epp, Lustre, Michael Beston, Frazer, Audree Garsjo, Nashua, Karla Schulz, Glasgow, and Tiffany See, Hinsdale.

Website
The Women's Resource Center is in the process of adding some new and exciting
things to their website. Jennifer Brown, youth leader
for the Center, is adding some new topics this summer relating to teen issues.
Pictures of Women's Resource Center community events are also being added. To

Illusion
Theater
In May the Illusion Theater performed several good touch bad touch presentations to the preschool kids at the First Lutheran Church. Coloring books and stickers were given out. The Illusion Theater actors and actresses did an excellent job and the preschoolers throughly enjoyed the presentation.

Staff
Dolly Voxland resigned from her position in Daniels and Sheridan Counties in
April due to family health issues. Dolly is very compassionate and will be greatly
missed.
The Women's Resource Center has expanded to Phillips County providing domestic
violence services along with sexual assault services. Law enforcement personnel,
the County Attorney's office, and members of the medical profession have expressed
a need for services in the area. A temporary employee has been hired until future
funding is in place. We are very pleased to be serving the communities in Phillips
county and have received positive feedback.

New Products
The Center just received a new shipment of new products. There are cool new buttons, stickers and t-shirts. Stop by the office and take a look. Items will also be on display for purchase at the Valley, Daniels and Phillips county fairs.
Support
Group
The Women's Resource Center has a support group for
female domestic violence and sexual assault survivors in Glasgow and Malta.
Sessions are held at least twice a month. Everything is kept strictly confidential
and is free of cost. If you or someone you know is
interested please call the Glasgow office at 228-8401,
or the Malta office at 654-7340.
County
Fairs
The Women's Resource Center is participating in the county fairs in Valley,
Daniels, Sheridan and Phillips counties. There will be information on our services,
how to become a volunteer, and new activities for the upcoming year. There will
be items for sale and also free give-aways. Stop by and say "Hi"
Meeting
Place
The Women's Resource Center is the meeting place for a weekly book group that
started in the summer of 1993. The group meets to review books on various topics
such as inspirational, biographies, history, fiction, and writings. The individuals
participating find it a relaxing and enjoyable as well as educational
The American Association of University Women also meets at the Center for their
monthly meeting.
Day
Care Provider Training
A day care provider training will be provided for the service area in September,
free of charge. There will be 4 trainings one in Plentywood, Scobey, Glasgow,
and Malta. Topics will include information from Social Service programs, Child
Protective Services, Law Enforcement issues, domestic violence and sexual assault
as well as other community resources.
